Most healthy people recover from the flu without problems, but certain people are at high risk for serious complications
College students are susceptible to contracting flu viruses due to their close proximity in residential units and classrooms
The Flu vaccine was administered to 650 faculty, staff and students this fall! Hopefully with so many immunized we won't have much of an outbreak on campus! If you missed the vaccine here, it is still available at many retail pharmacies and is recommended for everyone 6 months of age and older!
Getting vaccinated is the best way to avoid getting either the seasonal or the H1N1 flu.
* The 2012 seasonal flu vaccination contains vaccine for three viruses:
• Influenza A, H1N1
• Influenza A, H3N2 **This is the most common strain causing the current flu outbreaks!
• Influenza B, 2010-like virus
Get immediate medical care if you experience:
Difficulty breathing or short of breath
Pain or pressure in the chest or abdomen
Severe or persistent vomiting
Flu-like symptoms improve but then return with fever and worse cough
