If you want to combine your mind and heart in a career that helps develop tomorrow's leaders, then you’ll enjoy our early childhood education (ECE) program.
ECE is the largest undergraduate education major and our College of Education is regarded as one of the best teacher preparation programs in the state of Ohio.
Coursework includes four courses in reading/language arts methods, plus math, science, social studies methods and two courses specifically for teaching young children with special needs. Method course assignments are tied to field experiences so you can teach what you have been taught.
What you’ll love about this program:
- Professors with elementary classroom experience who teach and supervise you.
- Over 600 hours of teaching experience in regular and inclusive classrooms at partner schools.
- Opportunities to expand your marketability by adding a grades 4-5 endorsement, reading endorsement, Spanish minor or dual licensure with early childhood intervention.
- Learning the best practices in teaching, assessment and classroom management that will make you highly qualified and accountable for your students’ learning.
- Unique experiences that make you stand out: meeting professional children’s authors and illustrators, student teaching in the Southern United States or in 17 different countries, working with faculty on research projects and professional presentations.
- Learning the latest technologies, such as SMART Boards, and how to use them in primary classrooms.
Graduates of our program are teaching throughout the United States. Three of our recent early childhood graduates are teaching in Osceola County, Florida. One of our early childhood graduates, Elysia McLaughlin, is teaching at the prestigious Celebration School in Orlando, Florida and was named “New Teacher of the Year” in 2011.
